The manager at Haberling with whom I made the contract took full responsibility for every detail. He visited the apartment in advance, took an inventory of the items, and advised me as to how I could save a significant amount of money by eliminating certain items so that the move could be accomplished using one freight container instead of two.
I also had some items at a location in a different city, and the manager arranged for the pickup of these items and their consolidation for shipment with the items from Berlin.
The move itself took place exactly at the time at which it was scheduled. I could not be at the apartment at the time, but the manager showed up personally to supervise the move, and we spoke by telephone during the start of the move to clarify any questions his team had.
After the move, the manager helped with all aspects of the shipment process to the US, and kept me updated at every step. He watched the loading of my goods into the freight container and sent me photos of this. He updated me when the container was loaded onto the ship; when the ship sailed from Germany; when the ship had a delay en route due to an extra stop; when the ship arrived in the US; and when my goods cleared customs and were picked up by the US affiliate.
Possibly not every client would want all this information, but I thought it was great!
Haberling's US affiliate was also very professional - I think their Unigroup network is in general a network of top quality providers. The handover was seamless and my goods arrived beautifully packed at their destination.

- the team showed up between two and three hours late, without any prior warning.
- We were promised a team of two people who would stay constant throughout the move, with some support in London and different support in the Berlin. Instead we only had one person who stayed with us, and the support team changed every day for all four days of the move. The one person who was constant spent most of his time on the truck, not in the house. As a result the movers had significant trouble reassembling our furniture at the destination, and I had to help them out a lot since the team simply had no clue!
- They damaged a lot of pieces of our furniture as well as the house through outright carelessness. Most of the damage has since been repaired at Haberling's expense, but it created a lot of hassle for me.
- They missed an entire cupboard full of vintage vases and bowls even though we had pointed out that cupboard to the move team multiple times. We're still trying to get reimbursed for these items through the insurance.
On the plus side, the actual Haberling people I dealt with were very professional. Just a pity they didn't actually handle the move. I would've hoped that Haberling would agree that these grievances are substantial and therefore give me a substantial discount on the EUR 12 000 price tag for the move. But after a few months of haggling they've only offered EUR 400. So they insist on getting the business class price although they provided only economy class service. Bummer.Lesen Sie mehr
